While I was in Guatemala City, someone came up with the idea that I could do 900 class pictures while the kids made frames in class for the 4×6 prints. My first reaction was “You want how many kids photographed in one day?!” I thought, no way, not happening, can’t be done without a helper and translator. But of course, there’s always a way. “I can do all things through Christ…”.

You see, school pictures are not done here. In fact, really, pictures are rare. We are so used to seeing thousands of “selfies” roll across our news feed on Facebook every day. These kids don’t ever get a picture made. So we worked out a system, and made it happen. I had packed an umbrella, 2 flashes, and a remote system, so we set that up a made a big deal about the “photo shoot”. Did I need all that stuff? Not really, but I wanted these kids to feel special, to be “fussed over”.

Friday we did about 800 kids. Monday about 35 more, and Tuesday a few more. Tuesday the kids got to go home with a framed picture of themselves for their family to have. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
