Wow. The stories I have just from day 1.
The flight from Atlanta was…boring. We were being met at the airport in Guatemala by…someone with a sign. Only, we didn’t see a sign with our names. We waited on the curb about a half hour before a smallish Guatemalan man who walked up to Scott and said something that sounded like “Scott”, but we weren’t sure. We made sure he had my name too, before trusting to get in his car. To be sure that “And they were never heard from again” was not part of our story. He spoke no English, and the only Spanish I know pertains to ordering a burrito and finding the “banos”.
We were off to the school, but our driver didn’t know how to get there. Once we got to the general area, he stopped at every corner to ask. Many animated hand motions later, we found it. They have security in their schools, too.
One of my purposes in getting to the school yesterday instead of heading straight to the Seminary where we are staying was to check out the scene. Friday I am making 850 individual pictures of the students. We thought about the challenges of making that many images in one day, and doing only class groups instead of individuals. But, these kids don’t ever get this kind of attention. I decided that we were going to make this work, and every one of these kids was going to have a 4×6 framed portrait to have .
They do a morning session for one group and an afternoon session for the next. It will be a fast paced thing, but we are going to do it. These kids are worth it.
Enough words? Yeah, I think so too. Here’s more images. Please continue to pray for our group, and the ones we will get to be in contact with.
